  A Service Oriented Geek

SOAPitStop will be speaking at the VS.NET 2005 / SQL 2005 / BizTalk 2006 Launch Event!

I have cool news to share, I have been selected by the local Microsofties to help speak at the Launch event in December. This is a great opportunity to get up and talk about the new service-oriented features being delivered with VS.NET 2005, SQL Server 2005, and BizTalk 2006. The event will be at the Orlando Convention Center on December 8th. Come see me at the speakers lounge / cabana (whatever they're calling it for this) and be sure that you do NOT miss my session titled "Design and Development Tools for Building Mission-Critical Applications". For more information check out the home page of soapitstop.com and take a look at the upcoming events.

I'm Not an Architect but I do play one on TV!

I am truly excited to announce that I was recently promoted from a development lead to an enterprise solutions architect at Publix. This new role comes with some interesting challenges and I will need to learn a lot from all of the other experienced architects there in order to be successfull. I am thrilled to take on this new role and I am very optimistic that this change is a huge step forward in my career.

The types of tasks are at a much broader level requiring loads of guideline documentation for sure. I'll also be moving into more of a consultant role for multiple projects forcing me to become much better at managing my time. The past 2 years I have had the pleasure to work with an incredible team of people focusing on the delivery of one line of business application. Now I'll be looking to split my time between three, four, and maybe even more project teams.

Of course it shouldn't suprise anyone reading this blog that one of my first desires is to get a better grasp on our service oriented architecture. Service identificaiton and management are strategies that are continually evolving throughout the entire industry and we are not an anomaly in that arena. I also have a strong desire to bring a open sense of community to the application delivery teams at Publix. Through open sharing of ideas and issues I really do hope that I can start to foster collaborations that are more synergistic than ever before.

I know these seem like lofty goals but I like to do my best to reach and hopefully if I fall short I'll learn something from the process and try again. I would expect there'll be some very intersting posts in the first six months to a year of me adapting to this new role. Keep coming back and you'll see some 'day in the life' type posts (if that sort of thing interests you).
